Rachel K. Haines grew up in Burlington Township, New Jersey near Philadelphia, PA. Rachel’s first love was rock and roll, and she would travel to Philadelphia to see as many live shows as she could. At the age of 12, Rachel took up guitar to learn her favorite Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac songs. It wasn’t until high school that Rachel started to get involved with singing and acting. After being cast in Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods, she realized that her life would not be the same without music.
After graduating from Burlington Township High School, Rachel received a scholarship to go to The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. As one of the only members of her class with no training prior to college, Rachel worked hard to become one of the top vocalists in the school. She chose to major in jazz vocal performance to get a better understanding of jazz musicianship, improvisation and contemporary music.
While at UARTS, Rachel was lucky enough to work with famed pianist Peter Nero as a member of the Philly Pops Festival Chorus and became a part of choral groups that have opened for acts such as Sting and James Taylor. She was also a part of some of UARTS’ most prestigious ensembles including HEAVIES Ensemble, Guitar/Vocal Duos, Rock Ensemble and the Steely Dan Ensemble. Furthermore, Rachel was one of a small, select group of vocalists chosen to record with the UARTS Rick Kerber Tribute Big Band. Now based in Manhattan, Rachel is now primarily a session and background vocalist as well as a plus size model.
While Rachel loves all musical genres, her focus is in rock, jazz, pop, choral, electronic, folk, musical theater and indie rock. Recently, Rachel has performed at popular New York venues such as The Highline Ballroom, Arlene's Grocery and The Bowery Electric. Also, for the past 6 years Rachel has been recording with the award-winning Philadelphia-based indie band, Work Drugs. Rachel is featured on multiple Work Drugs albums including Absolute Bearing, Delta, Amore EP, Mavericks and Cayman Islands Sessions Vol II. All of these albums can be found on iTunes, Spotify, Pandora and Soundcloud. Rachel's cover of "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" was also recently played on 88.5 WXPN in Philadelphia, PA. Rachel's newest project is an indie-pop duo called Rush Week. Rush Week has recently been featured in the Deli Magazine and WXPN's blog, The Key. Rush Week has also recently signed with Elefant Records and will be releasing their debut album "Feels" in early 2018.
Rachel has also been taking on very diverse session, background and cabaret projects. For examples of past session/demo work, please contact Rachel. Rachel also recently walked in Curves Rock Weekend (Baltimore, MD), NY Summer Fashion Explosion (NY), Small Boutique Fashion Week (NYC) and Jersey City Fashion Week (NJ). She hopes to pursue more modeling, session, background and solo work as well as commercial acting and voiceover work in the future.
